About Our Founder

Percival Q. Waddlesworth

Founder & Chief VP Officer

Percival Q. Waddlesworth has spent over three decades at the quiet intersection of magic, mechanics, and questionable judgment.

Raised in a household where secrets were considered impolite and questions were strongly discouraged, Percival developed an early fascination with things that should not work, but somehow did. By the age of twelve, he had already retired from his first magic club under circumstances that are still “under review.”

After studying theatrical engineering, applied misdirection, and comparative penguin posture at institutions that prefer not to be named, Percival went on to consult privately for performers, inventors, and at least one person who thought they were buying a levitation and received something else entirely.

A Career of Near Successes

Percival’s creations have been described as:

  • “Years ahead of their time”
  • “Impressive, but unusable”
  • “Technically correct, but deeply confusing”

Several of his effects were nearly released. Others were released and quietly reclaimed. One is still traveling internationally under an assumed name.

Why Vanishing Penguin?

According to Percival:

“Most magic companies aim to sell effects.
I wanted to preserve them.”

Vanishing Penguin was founded to provide a safe environment for ideas that are too refined, too niche, or too unnecessary to survive in the wild. Here, they can be admired, discussed, and then gently ignored—exactly as intended.

Current Work

Percival currently oversees:

  • Concept curation
  • Ad copy refinement
  • Ensuring nothing is ever quite finished

He continues to work on several projects slated for release “when the time is right,” a phrase he uses frequently and with great confidence.

Outside of Magic

When not developing effects, Percival enjoys:

  • Standing very still
  • Adjusting things that were already straight
  • Watching penguins fall over in slow motion (because really, show doesn't?)

He lives somewhere cold, possibly by choice.

What People Are Saying

“Percival Waddlesworth is one of the most original thinkers in magic today.

Unfortunately, originality alone does not make an effect performable.”

D. H. Collings, Lecturer in Theoretical Deception

“I tested one of Percival’s prototypes for six weeks.

By the end, the effect worked flawlessly.

I had no idea what it was.”

Marla V., Professional Performer

“We seriously considered releasing his work.

Several times.

Each time, something else happened.”

Anonymous, Magic Company (Established)

“Percival’s thinking is bold, elegant, and needlessly specific.

I respect that.”

G. R., Creator & Consultant

“I asked him a simple question about the method.

He answered a different question, very thoroughly.”

Alan P., Early Adopter

“The effect reset instantly, which was impressive—

considering it never fully began.”

Workshop Attendee, Notes on File

“I don’t regret working with Percival.

I do think about it more often than I’d like.”

Name Withheld, For Reasons

“He told me, ‘You’re not ready for this yet.’

I’m still not sure what ‘this’ was.”
